LYME REGIS REGATTA & CARNIVAL 2006

Key Dates for 2006:

Lyme Regis Regatta & Carnival Week 2006 : 5th - 13th August 2006

Objectives:

Lyme Regis Regatta & Carnival exists to provide fun and entertainment for residents and visitors to Lyme Regis, and to raise money for local Lyme Regis good causes. As a result of our activities in 2005 we were able to distribute £6500 to a number of local Lyme organisations, primarily those involved with our youth, and the elderly.

Our principal events take place during Regatta & Carnival Week, but we also organise and run a May Fête, duck races, and the town’s annual Guy Fawkes celebration.

We are an entirely voluntary organization run by a small committee, and receive no public subsidy or support.

Regatta & Carnival Week

In spite of the works taking place in parts of the gardens in connection with the stabilisation of Lyme Regis, our activities are mostly unaffected this year, and there will be the customary programme of over 70 events throughout the week. We have a number of major activities: our processions, two lots of fireworks, and a band. But every day there are multiple things to do for all the family! These include quizzes and competitions, kids’ disco party, Teddy Bears’ Picnic, sand castle building, pavement art, the mural, wheeled derby, the giant conga, open air barn dance, family flower arranging, dog show, fancy dress, Tea With Music, sand sports, boat trips, art and photography exhibitions, town band concerts, and a duck race. Our aim is to provide a variety of activities with something to interest all the family, whatever their age.

Charges & Timings

Generally, taking part in our events, activities and competitions is £1 per event. We make no charge for many of our activities such as the fireworks and bands, but we do ask for generous donations - these events are expensive to mount and our objective is to raise money for local good causes.

The above summary is our current view of when our principal activities will take place, but this can change as our planning proceeds. Full details of the timings of all our events are in the Regatta & Carnival Programme, available now, price £1, from newsagents and other outlets in Lyme Regis.
